Veteran Benefits Support Expert – Now Hiring

(Full-Time Position)

Role Overview

Claim Climbers is seeking an experienced, empathetic, highly driven, and detail-oriented Veteran Benefits Support Expert to join our team. This role focuses on reviewing veterans’ VA denial letters, explaining in clear terms why the denial occurred, and determining whether Claim Climbers can support the case with additional medical evidence.

You will speak directly with veterans, help them understand complex information, and document all findings with accuracy and clarity. Success in this role requires strong customer support experience, deep familiarity with VA rating decisions and service connection concepts, and the ability to read and summarize medical and VA documentation quickly in a high-volume, remote environment. Experience as a Veteran Service Officer (VSO), National Service Officer, or Veterans Service Representative (VSR), or comparable is a plus.

About Claim Climbers

Claim Climbers is dedicated to supporting U.S. military veterans by providing evidence-based nexus letters that strengthen VA disability claims. Our mission is to ensure veterans receive the benefits they have earned through personalized, accurate, and medically grounded services.

Why This Role Matters

Veterans often feel confused, discouraged, or overwhelmed after receiving a denial from the VA. Many do not understand the reasoning behind the decision or what additional evidence might be needed. As a Veteran Support Specialist, you help bridge that gap.

You provide clarity, reassurance, and realistic guidance while determining whether Claim Climbers can support an appeal, supplemental claim, or rebuttal letter. Your work ensures that veterans receive accurate information and compassionate support at a critical moment in their claims journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret VA rating decisions and denial letters to identify the reasons for the decision.
  • Conduct high-volume outbound and inbound phone calls with veterans to discuss their denial and possible next steps.
  • Determine whether Claim Climbers can provide medical evidence that the veteran may choose to submit through their accredited representative.
  • Document findings accurately in the CRM, including why Claim Climbers can or cannot support the case.
  • Provide empathetic, clear explanations to veterans about denial reasons, evidence gaps, and potential options.
  • Set appropriate expectations about Claim Climbers’ role and what we can and cannot do.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to route cases correctly and ensure timely follow-up and next actions.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of VA regulations, service connection concepts, rating criteria, and common denial patterns.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, consistent, and audit-ready.
  • Protect all sensitive medical and personal information through strict adherence to HIPAA and company confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

  • Direct experience interpreting VA rating decisions and VA denial letters is required.
  • Strong understanding of VA disability service connection concepts, including primary, secondary, aggravation, and increases.
  • Proven customer support experience, preferably in high-volume or emotionally sensitive environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment with consistent reliability and productivity.
  • Fast reading comprehension with the ability to quickly review and summarize VA and medical documentation.
  • Experience applying quality control or audit standards in documentation-heavy roles.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and comfort using CRM or EMR systems.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and the ability to explain complex information in simple, practical language.
  • Clear, professional, and empathetic verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Veteran Service Officer, accredited agent, or former VA rater experience is a plus.
  • Commitment to serving veterans with empathy, integrity, and professionalism.

Performance Expectations

  • Accurately interpret VA denial logic and communicate it clearly to veterans.
  • Maintain a high volume of quality calls while delivering exceptional support and maintaining professionalism.
  • Document every case thoroughly, clearly, and promptly in the CRM so that internal teams can understand the full context without follow-up.
  • Meet internal turnaround times for outreach, follow-up, and documentation.
  • Ensure all notes and records are audit-ready and rarely require correction or clarification.
  • Demonstrate emotional composure and empathy when working with veterans who may be frustrated, discouraged, or confused.
  • Show strong reliability, punctuality, and effective workload organization in a remote setting.
  • Meet or exceed productivity, accuracy, and communication expectations within the first 90 days.

Benefits

  • Remote within the United States
  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Paid time off, sick leave, and observed holidays
  • Learning and development support
  • Supportive, mission-driven team environment
